Hand-painted Kalamkari Toran / Bandanwal - Door Hanging

Torana, also known as Bandanwal, is a decorative door hanging. The origin of torans can be traced to Puranas. It regarded auspicious and meant to please & attract the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. 

Torans are also used to decorate the main entrance of the home &  welcomes guests.

This beautiful Kalamkari paintings is characterized by its freehand drawing, where artists use a pen (kalam) to draw designs and fill in colors. depicts stories and characters from Hindu mythology and epics. 

The process of creating Kalamkari involves a series of steps, including:
1. Cloth Preparation: The fabric is treated with myrobalan extract to prepare it for dyeing. 
2. Outline Drawing: The artist uses a Kalam (pen) made of bamboo reeds to draw the outlines of the design. 
3. Dye Application: Natural dyes are applied to the fabric, with various colors obtained from natural sources. 
4. Color Fixing: A variety of techniques, including using alum and myrobalan, are employed to fix the dyes. 

Being hand painted this product is unique in itself, and its tiny imperfections is what makes it special.
