Teraracotta Celestial Dancer FigurineThis 8 inch figurine is an attempt to recreate the famous Celestial Dancer thats actually a life sized sandstone structure housed in the MET Museum dating back to the 11th Century, from Madhya Pradesh

The raw aesthetic of terracota lends beautifully to represent the carved deiteies that India is famous for in our historical architecture. The stance and the postures exaggerated. And this little sculpture is an attempt to appreciate our rich heritage in a small way in our intimate spaces  

Traditional Terracotta Firing Process

Note: Traditional terracotta is not as strong or durable as modern ceramic because it is fired at a much lower temperature. Please place this product so that it is safe from damage.

Traditional kilns are essentially shallow pits filled with charcoal. For firing, products are placed very closely together in the pit and covered with a layer of broken pottery fragments for insulation. The process of firing usually lasts around three hours.
