This quirky product is a design intervention in the craft of Channapatna, that's helping this age old craft survive.   

Channapatna is an age old traditional craft popular for their colorful toys handcrafted in Channapatna, a town in Karnataka, India. It is also known as "Gombegala Ooru" .The toys are made using traditional techniques and natural dyes, making them safe for children

The craft dates back to the 18th century when Tipu Sultan, ruler of Mysore, invited Persian artisans to train local craftsmen. This led to the start of a unique toy-making tradition that combined Persian techniques with local aesthetics. 

Each piece has been pain staking hand-crafted by artisans from Channapatna using the traditional lacquer ware turning technique.

Being a hand made product, it is unique in itself, and its tiny imperfections is what makes it special.
