Product Description

Hand made tabletop terracotta figurine of a relaxing 'naeka' Bengali woman, available as singles in two pose options, or a set of both.

This product is inspired by famous kalighat artist Jamini Roy's paintings of typical Bengali women, with a touch of 'naeka-ness' added by our terracotta artist (the Bengali term naeka - ন্যাকা - roughly translates to 'somewhat exaggerated and dramatic in one's mannerisms, in a playful and mischievous way').

Our artist has done a marvelous job with our brief, combining two-dimensional imagery with our inputs to bring these intricate figurines to life! The raw aesthetic of terracotta lends itself beautifully to the composition, with the slightly exaggerated stances and postures.

Having them on your bookshelf or table, perched on a stand in your balcony garden, or in a box frame on your wall is sure to add an element of drama and elegance to your home.

Traditional Terracotta Firing Process

Note: Traditional terracotta is not as strong or durable as modern ceramic because it is fired at a much lower temperature. Please place these products so that they are safe from damage.

Traditional kilns are essentially shallow pits filled with charcoal. For firing, products are placed very closely together in the pit and covered with a layer of broken pottery fragments for insulation. The process of firing usually lasts around three hours.

Please note: The actual colors may vary based on the screen resolution of your device. In our experience, viewing the products on the desktop is usually more true to the actual colors.

Installation

• We recommend that these be fixed to a surface with the double tape provided on the base so they don’t accidentally fall off and break.
• Please remember to peel off the top layer of the tape before placing the figurine.
• We recommend trying out a few different placements before removing the top layer of the tape to fix it. Once the figurine is fixed to the surface with the tape, it may be difficult to remove.

• Wipe only using a clean soft cloth.
