Product Description

40-inch hand-carved gomira mask celebrating the goddess Durga, carved out of a single large piece of wood.

The crown includes depictions of other deities that are considered Durga's children in eastern parts of India: Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity; Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and music; Ganesha, the god of good beginnings; and Kartikeya, the god of war.

This would would be perfect as a statement piece when displayed on its own, especially when lit well.

Rustic gomira masks were traditionally made by villagers in areas like Jalpaiguri, Dinajpur and others in West Bengal for use in ritualistic dances, performed to appease village deities and the forces of nature.

Today, only around 200 artisans and their families still make these masks. We aim to work with them to present more of their traditional designs as part of our wall decor range.
