Product Description
17" Dashavatar hand-carved gomira mask , carved out of a single large piece of wood.
The artist has skilfully made this new design for our store exclusively on request
Dashavatar refers to the ten primary incarnations (avatars) of the Hindu god Lord Vishnu, who descends to Earth to preserve dharma and restore cosmic order whenever it is endangered
This would would be perfect as a statement piece when displayed on its own, especially when lit well.
Rustic gomira masks were traditionally made by villagers in areas like Jalpaiguri, Dinajpur and others in West Bengal for use in ritualistic dances, performed to appease village deities and the forces of nature.
Today, only around 200 artisans and their families still make these masks. We aim to work with them to present more of their traditional designs as part of our wall decor range.
