Collection: Pichwai Art

A collection of Pichwai art from our Rajasthani folk artist, hand-painted on various canvases ranging from traditional textile wall hangings to plates, trays and cutouts.

Pichwai art as an art form is said to be around 400 years old, having originated in the Deccan and refined in Gujarat and, finally, in Nathdwara in Rajasthan. A pichwai painting is traditionally meant to be used as a wall hanging behind an idol of Lord Krishna (‘pichwai’ comes from ‘pichh’ meaning ‘behind’, and ‘wai’ meaning ‘cloth’).

Today, pichwai is a popular art form for home decor. Our pichwai plates (which we believe we were the first to conceptualize) are some our best-selling items, for example.
