The divine bull Nandi, companion and vehicle of Lord Shiva, is an enduring theme in Indian sculpture and art. Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, for example, usually have a Nandi statue not far from the entrance. A symbol of purity, justice and wisdom, a Nandi statue in some form is found in many Indian homes.
