Collection: Cherial art

A collection of masks and busts, hand-made and painted in the traditional Cherial art style of Telangana

Cherial art is popularly practised in the small village of Cherial, Telangana. The art form is a blend of Kalamkari and Deccani scroll paintings that has been in practice since the 16th century. The art form usually depicts the mythological epics like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Garuda Purana etc.

Our Cherial wall masks and busts are made using the Cherial style's ancient mask making technique, which consists of an elaborate five-step process involving moulding, drying, decorating, smoothing and, finally, painting in the distinctive bright Cherial colours.
