Product Description
11-inch hand-painted folding kaavad box, painted in the pattachitra style and depicting the Krishna Leela (stories from the life of Lord Krishna).
Kaavad (also spelled kavad) is a form of storytelling from Rajasthan that uses a folding wooden box with multiple painted panels as a visual aid. The stories usually revolve around mythological or folk themes, with the kaavadia - the storyteller - revealing the panels as the story progresses.
While this is an art form unique to Rajasthan, we've given this kaavad box a twist by having it painted in the pattachitra style from Odisha instead. As always, it has been carefully designed and created using Trove's philosophy of combining traditional folk art with unusual canvases. The result: something that is both traditional and contemporary.
Being hand painted, this product is unique in itself, and its tiny imperfections are what make it special.
