About the product

A set of three frames, featuring monochrome photographs of three individual tombs from the Qutb Shahi necropolis in Hyderabad, each printed on canvas and hand-embroidered in the traditional zardozi style.

Zardozi embroidery

Zardozi embroidery involves the use of metal thread and beadwork on a fabric base to create elaborate patterns and designs. With roots in Islamic culture, zardozi embroidery is done in the Middle East and many parts of Central and South Asia, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Qutb Shahi Tombs

The Qutb Shahi necropolis is spread over 100 acres in Hyderabad’s Ibrahimbagh area,  The dynasty began when, in ca. 1518, Sultan Quli Qutb Shah declared himself and the Golconda region independent from the Bahmani kingdom that ruled the area at the time.
